I flew from CA to Chicago last Thursday. It wasn't bad, a couple hour delay and an elderly woman that had boundary issues, But all and all a pretty easy trip.
I had a GREAT time in Chicago catching up with friends. Time flew by, and I wasn't even close to being ready to go. We got snow... lots of beautiful snow. It was great. I even enjoyed the -31 windchill walk for breakfast. I miss winter.
But the real treat was getting stuck on the Amtrack for 15 hours. Chicago to Flint, you can drive it in 4.5... but somehow I managed to get trapped for what seemed like forever. Oh, and they ran out of food, drinks(including water) and toilet paper! My train was supposed to arrive around 9-10, it arrived at 6am. It was the weirdest experience. Everyone was angry, but trapped and knew that there was nothing that we could do to speed it up. We could only hope for it to end as soon as possible. The train stopped for shift changes twice, several non descript checks, a train detachment from the rear (the attachment was an initial hour delay), and stops for oncoming trains. At no point when we stopped were fresh staff there and ready to board or were there attempts to get supplies. We kept getting 15 minute delay excuses that turned into hour long delays. I wouldn't recommend Amtrack to anyone, what a horrible experience. Read all about it.....
So, after a couple days getting my sleep schedule back on track, I'm thrilled to be home with the family for the Holidays.
Happy Holidays!
(and avoid Amtrack like the plague)
